Dear Skyline Community,
We are the Skyline Bell Scheduling Committee (representative students, teachers, counselor, parents, Admin designee/working committee from the Faculty Council). We have been meeting, reviewing Bell Schedule literature, reviewing different school schedules, and listing out parameters (laws, instructional minutes, bus schedules, union contracts, etc) along with our perceived needs of the campus. As you may be aware, the new law starting Fall 2022 is that high schools in California cannot start earlier than 8:30am. That means that Skyline’s bell schedule needs to change. AC Transit has already decided that their schedule for campus will be 8:30am and pick up 3:30pm.
Since it is a time for change, and as the present schedule was a pilot program for the modified hybrid block/regular schedule, we are taking this opportunity to possibly revamp the schedule with the goals of supporting Skyline’s climate and instruction. This revamped Bell Schedule change may possibly be a longer time commitment to create a more robust schedule, and for next year, just continue with the schedule as is, but start at 8:30am or so.
That is why we are asking for your input on this schedule. We would like to know what are your needs and hopes for the Skyline Bell Schedule in possibly the next year or the years to come? Please take time to fill out the Google Form to help us gather information to help us propose schedules to meet the needs of our campus. From feedback, we hope to offer up suggested schedules for final vote.
Our questions are open in this survey regarding start and end of school day, length of class periods, lunch/break/passing periods times, and your envisioned best schedule. Living in the 21st century, we are interested in how we can “unlock” time for our campus. For example, we have mentioned what might be a student schedule vs. what might be a staff schedule, ie. morning A&B periods (voluntary classes before school day starts), after school enrichment, etc., possibility of online options counting towards instructional minutes, or a college feel to campus.
The survey should take about 10-25 minutes to complete. We ask that surveys be completed by Feb 11, 2022. Reminder, all information is confidential. Participation is voluntary, but again, your participation would help our campus make an informed decision regarding the bell schedule.
Thank you for your time and thoughtful consideration for the poised questions. Your input is invaluable. Thank you!
The Bell Schedule Committee
