Ride… and Run 4A Reason!
We are so excited to announce our partnership with the Lake Merritt Joggers and Striders (LMJS) as R4R offers it’s first ever in person run option on Sunday April 24 at Lake Merritt. Runners can opt to run a 5, 10 or 15K. Details will be shared closer to the date but you can sign up to “Run 4A Reason” now for $40 (students and teachers will receive a $10 discount at checkout). Your registration includes an R4R t-shirt (if you register by Feb. 18), access to a customizable personal fundraising page and a large community of R4R supporters to back you up!
Training Rides Start in January!
R4R cyclists have the opportunity to join training groups to build confidence and camaraderie.- The Easy Riders Group is great for students, teachers or parents who are considering the 45 miler. The Easy Rider group will meet every other Sunday, gradually working up to 30 miles to prepare you for the big event. Our first ride will be on Sunday, January 9. Meeting time is 9am in the Public Shore parking lot behind Chevy's Restaurant in Emeryville. We'll roll out at 9:15. There are bathrooms at the turnaround point and we'll stop to eat a snack there. Bring a water bottle and snack. We'll have a leader at the front and a sweep in the back. The entire training ride is on a bike path and helmets are required. For questions email j4ryden@gmail.com.
- The Middle of the Road “MOTR” Group meets weekly and prepares you to ride your first century (metric or full). The first ride of the season will be on Sunday, January 2, and will meet in front of Oakland Tech at 9am for a flat 35 miles. Rain will cancel. Contact Merrilee Proffitt merrilee@merrilee.org to join the MOTR email list for the training plan and information on future MOTR rides.

R4R & Covid-19 Safety Update
While we are still hopeful for an in-person event in April, we are very aware of Covid-19’s changing nature and know that it will impact the event in some way. With the current rise of new variants, the committee has decided to require proof of vaccination for all participants and volunteers on Saturday, April 23, 2022, in an attempt to keep our communities and families as safe as possible. If you have already registered, we will be in touch with a separate email on next steps in January. Thank you for helping to keep R4R as safe as possible.
